Your Privacy on These Pages
A number of people are concerned that the DNA information, even though
displayed on website, will remain private and not be tied to them personally. As
project administrator, I have done several things to ensure that there is no
link between your kit number and personally identifiable information.
- I remove your name from the report that is generated internally and,
instead, list only the main line you stem from on the color chart I create and
post.
- On that main line, IF you sent a pedigree, your pedigree is shown but it
does not include your name at all nor does it most of the time include your
father or other living persons, for privacy reasons.
- On the Lines Taking Test page, the lines as shown only include between 4-6
generations from your source ancestor, and not you nor usually your father's
generation and the lines do not specifically mention you as part of the line.
Because it is expected that a given line will represent more than one person,
the details on whose lines these are is not included on these pages but rather
may be checked on the charts page by earliest known ancestor.
- If someone wishes to get hold of you to find out information, I have
included a form which can be clicked on the Kit number on the charts page and
sends you an email. This form does not show your email but lets someone email
you as if it comes from the server, thus protecting your privacy. You then
have the option to write back, if you wish, to the person who is requesting
information. (This also deters spammers from *harvesting* your email).
There is another section on the website which is for research, in which you
may list your website or other contact information, but of course this has no
direct connection to the DNA project.
